Requirements for the Master of Science

To complete this M.S. degree, 30 credits as specified below must be completed.

  • four 3 credit core courses that will introduce students to fundamental elements of modeling, hardware, and software relevant to mechatronics and robotics
  • one 3 credit course will introduce students to fundamentals of entrepreneurship and innovation to enable them to link their technical education with potential to launch businesses
  • two 3 credit project courses will allow students to acquire hands-on learning and experience in integrating their coursework to create concrete illustrations of mechatronics and robotic devices (alternatively, 6 credit thesis research or 2 internships plus a 3 credit project: see below)
  • to specialize in a focused area of mechatronics and robotics, students will select up to two 3 credit courses from a list of elective courses
  • one 3 credit free elective course with advisor approval

Specialty (6 Credits)

Two courses from the same specialty area must be taken from the following list to develop a specialization:

Project Courses (6 Credits)

Students must complete either two 3-credit project courses, or two 1.5-credit internships and one 3-credit project course, or they can enroll in one 6-credit thesis course. The 6-credit thesis may be spread across 2 semesters – 3-credit thesis plus 3-credit thesis – but both sections must comprise one thesis. Students may also begin in a project in one term and finish it as a thesis if the project is of exceptionally high quality – 3-credit project plus 3-credit thesis. Note: students may not start in a thesis in one semester and then later convert their thesis into a project.

Total: 30 Credits
